Appointment of Eritrean Diplomat as Chair-Rapporteur of the 2026 UN Human Rights Council Social Forum Marks a Significant Milestone

Geneva – Eritrea has reached another important diplomatic milestone with the appointment of Mr. Habtom Zerai Ghirmai, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Eritrea’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, as Chair-Rapporteur of the 2026 Social Forum of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The appointment was made by the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council, H.E. Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, following a nomination process within the regional group. Mr. Habtom Zerai Ghirmai was selected to assume this important leadership role, reflecting the confidence placed in his diplomatic experience and professional competence.
